Expert Water Management and SuDS Case Studies

Delivering Engineered Solutions Across the UK

Welcome to our Water Management Case Studies page. Water control is essential on modern build sites. At Catalogue Engineering, we deliver specialist water management solutions for major construction, civil engineering, and national infrastructure projects throughout Britain. To learn more about our company standards and site team, visit our about us page, or review our formal certifications on our accreditations page.

Protecting Groundworks and Surrounding Environments

Uncontrolled surface water causes costly delays. Proper drainage keeps site teams moving safely while protecting local ecosystems from run-off contamination. Whether you are constructing new schools, preparing complex transport corridors, or developing industrial commercial parks, controlling surface water and groundwater remains a vital foundation of every project.

Proven Results With Leading Civil Contractors

We work alongside the top tier-one contractors in the UK. On this page, you can examine real-world installations featuring partners like Smiths (Gloucester), Cognition Land & Water Ltd, DAB Civil Engineering Contractors, Galldris Services Ltd, and JFFrench. What We Do – Core Services Featured

Every site presents distinct ground challenges. Below are the key specialist systems featured within our project portfolio.

Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and Paving

Heavy rain requires smart containment. We supply and install high-density membrane liners paired with thick protection fleeces to support SuDS networks. These frequently link into permeable paving across school parking areas and commercial groundworks.

Attenuation Crates and Soakaway Systems

Controlling peak storm flow is essential. We carry out turnkey attenuation and soakaway installations designed to store stormwater underground before releasing it at controlled rates. Read our article on attenuation tanks vs soakaways to learn more about selecting the right setup.

Welded Liners and Custom Panels

Off-site fabrication saves time. We weld durable geomembranes into bespoke boxwelds and prefabricated panels. This approach reduces site install times while securing absolute watertight performance for retention ponds and run-off basins.

Water Containment and Temporary Lagoons

Water containment needs to be total. We supply and lay heavy-duty pond liners for both permanent features and temporary emergency lagoons. Read our practical guides on the pond liner installation process, check out the guide to industrial pond liners, or see why main contractors choose to hire a professional pond liner contractor.

Specialist Recreational Liners

Leisure infrastructure demands neat visual finishes alongside functional waterproofing. We supply and line water hazards using robust geomembranes, including custom golf course lake liners.

Complementary Environmental Solutions

Modern construction looks upwards as well as down. We integrate ground water management with elevated green and blue solutions. Learn how living roofs attenuate surface water using green roofs and dedicated blue roofs, view our comparison of blue vs green roofs, or inspect our detailed green roof benefits, costs, and maintenance guide.

Featured Project Highlights

Educational, Power, Commercial, and Railway Infrastructure

1. Sustainable School Groundworks – Whitehead School, Newport

Client: Smiths (Gloucester) | Location: Mendalgief Road, Newport

School build sites require sustainable water management. During groundworks at Whitehead School, the project required an extensive SuDS system underneath paved car parks. We supplied and installed 6,500m² of 0.6mm CATE-HD 600 welded liner combined with CATE-TEX 300gsm protection fleece. This provided long-term drainage without risking local groundwater pollution.

2. Emergency Site Water Control – Barking Power Station, London

Client: Cognition Land & Water Ltd | Location: Chequers Lane, Barking

Water ingress can halt a project overnight. When sudden site flooding threatened progress at Barking Power Station, we acted quickly. Our team supplied and fitted 3,500m² of heavy CATE-HD 1000 liner alongside a protective fleece to create a secure temporary lagoon. This rapid installation collected excess groundwater and allowed site operations to resume immediately.

3. Stormwater Attenuation Tanks – Moulton Park, Northampton

Client: DAB Civil Engineering Contractors | Location: Anglia Way, Northampton

Commercial developments must manage heavy storm run-off. To protect local infrastructure near Anglia Way, we constructed two subterranean attenuation tanks using 1,038m³ of heavy-duty crates wrapped in CATE-LL membrane. Every single welded joint was air-tested on site by our senior technicians to verify a leak-proof seal before backfilling.

4. Nuclear Infrastructure Support – Sizewell C Power Station, Suffolk

Client: Galldris Services Ltd | Location: Leiston, Suffolk

National energy projects demand high-capacity drainage. Infrastructure preparation at Sizewell C required a system capable of absorbing vast water volumes. Our specialists installed a massive 1,389m³ soakaway using heavy modular ACO HD blocks, providing reliable, high-volume surface run-off control for the site.

5. Transport Infrastructure Delivery – HS2 Project, Buckinghamshire

Client: JFFrench | Location: A413, Little Missenden

Railway groundworks face unpredictable weather and tough ground conditions. Working along the A413 route for HS2, our technicians supplied and welded 1,500m² of 0.6mm CATE-HD 600 liner supported by CATE-TEX 300gsm protection fleece. The result was a stable, fully compliant water management layer built to withstand heavy machinery movement.

Comprehensive Ground Protection and Why Work With Us

Integrated Gas and Hydrocarbon Protection

Site ground protection rarely stops at water control. Many brownfield and urban developments require full protection against ground gases and chemical contaminants. We provide engineered gas and hydrocarbon barriers, including complete gas barrier installations and certified hydrocarbon barriers. To see how we protect complex sites, visit our gas management case studies section, or read our technical articles on choosing the right gas membrane, hydrocarbon barriers vs standard gas membranes, and achieving total BS 8485 compliance in gas barrier installations.

The Catalogue Engineering Advantage

Fully Tested Quality

We test every joint on site. Our senior technicians conduct rigorous air testing on welded seams to prove watertight integrity before handing over the system.

High-Performance Materials

Quality materials prevent failure. From CATE-HD welded liners to CATE-TEX protection fleeces and attenuation crates, our products handle challenging UK soil conditions.

Flexible Project Execution

We adapt to real site conditions. Whether setting up permanent SuDS infrastructure or responding to urgent flooding with temporary lagoons, we scale our team to match your schedule.

Full Environmental Compliance

Regulations are strict. Every system we install satisfies UK SuDS guidelines, local planning criteria, and environmental agency standards.
